Citizens Campaign Contributes to City of Sonoma’s Housing Trust Fund

The Citizens to Renew the City of Sonoma’s Urban Growth Boundary has made a contribution to the City of Sonoma’s Housing Trust Fund from the remaining funds of the successful Yes on Measure W campaign to renew the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).

The Citizens to Renew the City of Sonoma’s Urban Growth Boundary is calling on community members to join them in making a direct tax-deductible donation to the city’s Housing Trust Fund to help provide housing and rental assistance for families and workers.

“Everyone who worked to renew the UGB strongly supports affordable housing and keeping people in their homes,” said Jack Ding, treasurer of the Citizens to Renew the UGB campaign, and City Councilmember-elect. “The donation is a sign of our commitment to making our city more affordable.”

“We encourage other community members and groups to join us in donating to the city’s Housing Trust Fund to build-up urgently needed revenues going forward,” said Johanna Patri, a member of the UGB citizens campaign team. “We all know that funding is the biggest hurdle to building more affordable homes in our town.”

The Housing Trust Fund was established by the City Council in May 2019 as a source of revenue to help meet the needs for low income housing in the City. On May 4, 2020, the City Council voted to allow a portion of the funds to be used for rental assistance and utility payments to help keep low income people in their housing during the pandemic.  The City is partnering with F.I.S.H. to process applications and distribute rental and utility assistance to qualifying households.
